| 02.7 | PREVENTION OF SKIN CANCER AND DERMATOLOGICAL ONCOLOGY |
Focus of general dermatology |
Skin cancer is a growing problem (140,000 new cases a year in Germany alone), but it can be healed in almost all cases. However, timely diagnosis is the prerequisite for providing optimum treatment (see also Prevention and skin check).
Each year the DERMATOLOGIKUM HAMBURG treats more than 2,000 skin cancer patients. Approximately 10 % of cases are black mole skin cancer, the malignant melanoma. Even more common is white skin cancer (basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma).
Today skin cancer is treated with gentle surgical procedures, certain localised therapies to stimulate the immune system, as well as special light therapies (photodynamic therapies).
