The production and distribution of cosmetics is not subject to the strict rules of the Pharmaceuticals Regulation. New formulations and new active ingredients, however, must be dermatologically tested for their effectiveness and tolerance. Cosmetics manufacturers mostly commission independent testing institutes with the testing of their products.

In order to contribute to ensuring that new cosmetics under development meet high quality standards, the DERMATOLOGIKUM HAMBURG works together with the testing institute S.I.T. – Skin Investigation and Technology GmbH . S.I.T. is an independent skin research institute with many years of experience in testing the effectiveness and tolerance of new cosmetics.

Skin analyses 

Upon request the S.I.T. research institute will conduct a comprehensive skin analysis. In addition to measuring skin moisture, skin fat content, skin elasticity and skin barrier, the relief of the skin's surface can be precisely determined and computer analyzed (PRIMOS, Texas Instruments, USA).

Routine check-ups can detect changes in the skin with precision, verifying e.g. the effectiveness of cosmetics. A precise skin analysis is a good foundation for customised skin care and protection measures.
